flutist, entrepreneur, educator
Dr. Ceylon Mitchell II serves the arts ecosystem as a multi-hyphenate arts leader: contemporary classical flutist, educator, and entrepreneur. On a mission to celebrate marginalized identities in music, especially Black and brown voices, his diverse repertoire spans from Western European classical to living cultural traditions across the Americas, along with everything in between.
I was blown away by Ceylon’s concert! Not only did he show amazing technical skill, but his ease with such a wide range of genres, his seamless collaboration with the other musicians, and most of all his emotional expressiveness were truly impressive. And his intellectual curiosity and discovery of so many fascinating composers was a revelation. He was so comfortable and charismatic on stage. I can’t wait to see how his music-making will unfold.
